Canada is recognized as one of the best countries in the world to live. But then again…
There is much suffering in our cities, and many of our people have given up on life. For many reasons they suffer in solitude. We find them seeking safety in the nooks and crannies of our streets. Scrounging for food. Sleeping in back alleys or anywhere that can shield them from passers-by and predators.
What is being done? And most importantly, what can we do? Yes, many do try to do what they can by providing food, clothing, blankets, and sometimes a little bit of money. But, those who struggle remain living in a condition that we should not tolerate or allow to continue.
It started with the idea to provide portable shelters with Action Promoting Peace. At one point Lewis Cardinal said, “we need a special space” for these portable shelters. That was the stepping-stone to bring the two new friends to the discovery of the solution that Lewis Cardinal suggested should be called “KANATAN“ (A Clean-Pure-Sacred Place in the languages of the Cree and the Algonquin speaking peoples of North America).

Words from our active members
“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
“There is not a man of us who does not at times need a helping hand to be stretched out to him, and then shame upon him who will not stretch out the helping hand to his brother.”
“Love is not patronizing and charity isn’t about pity, it is about love. Charity and love are the same – with charity you give love, so don’t just give money but reach out your hand instead.”
